Hair Guide The Way!!

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Ladies... we need to listen to our hair and its needs. We need to let our hair be our guide to discovering great products and techniques that work for us. Often we are tempted to try out tons of products, lotions, potions etc that our favorite hair guru uses. Sometimes we are too eager to use a certain product because it works wonders for them. However, everything is not for everyone. What works for one persons hair may not work for the next.

If you know your hair does not do to well with protein, stick to moisture and use a little protein and vice verse. Or if you know your hair needs to be comb through gently daily to get out the kinks, and tangles stick to that. We must let our hair be our guide to having healthy hair. Some women conditioner wash just about every day, I can't do that. It will be way too much manipulation for my hair.

The hardest part is finding out what works for our hair. However once you discover it, stick with it and stay consistent. Im not sayiing we can't try different products and methods. However, just keep in mind your hair texture and how it reacts to certain products. I have tried many many products on my hair journey some I fell in loved with others I've regreted. Just don't be too quick to jump on a bandwagon.

With that being said here are some products and methods that did not work for me!!!!

Products
MTG: Way too stinky (smelt like stale bacon), weighted my hair down. I just couldn't deal with it.
Lusters Pink Oil Moisturizer: Was too heavy, made my hair look dull.
911 Leave In Moisturizer: It did nothing for me.
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle: It did not give me no slip, my hair was not as soft as I would like.
Vitapointe Hair Dress Creme: My hair felt so greasy and weight down even though I used a little.

Methods
Conditioner Washes Everyday: It was too much manipulation, my hair started shedding a lot.
Not Combing Everyday Until Washes: Towards the end of the week my hair would be so tangle, and much more difficult to DE tangle in the shower.
Drying In The Ponytail Method: It just didn't work for me, my hair did not come out as smooth and silky as with roller sets.
Wet Wrapping: Oh Lord, big mistake.
Blowdrying than Flat Ironing: Let's just say breakage, damage city... way too much heat for my hair.

I don't understand, how can wet wrapping be a big mistake, can you be more specific?

Anonymous,
Keep in mind that these are techniques that didn't work for my hair. Everytime I would try to wrap my hair when wet I would have to comb, comb, and comb more to get a sleek look. I felt like I would loose more hairs this way. In addition the middle would still come out puffy and tangle. Maybe others have mastered this technique but not me. I rather stick to roller sets.

Hi Lorraine. I really enjoy your youtube videos which have inspired me to try to take better care of my hair rather than just chopping it off.

I was wondering about the condition washes. Was it that doing it everyday was no good for you or just conditioner washes in general? I know I used to do them in the summer time because it was just too hot to do anything else and I'd try to do a braid out with it. I'm thinking of doing it now... winter time and was wondering if that's a good or bad idea.

I think it is a great idea that you are keeping track of everything to see how your hair will 'respond' It's a great way to see what products work best!
