The ends of our hair is a vital important part if you want to see hair length. The ends are the oldest and most weakest part of our hair. That's why we need to preserve it and keep it healthy. We cannot see hair length if our ends are dry, damaged, and breaking. Abusing our hair with frequent heat styling, poor maintenance, quick and rough combing along with the use of harsh chemicals can lead to damaged ends that's why we must moisturize and protect our ends.
Moisturize
Moisturizing the hair while it's wet is an excellent way to seal in the moisture. You should take your favorite moisturizer (I like to use Neutrogena Silk Touch Leave-In) apply a small amount to the palm of your hands and rub throughout your hair concentrating on the ends. Follow it up with your favorite oil (I like to use Alma, Coconut, or Jojoba oil) again focusing on the ends. This method protects, moisturizes, and seals in the moisture. However, do not saturate your hair with the products, doing so can weight down your hair and make it life less. All you need is a little to go a long way.
You can also moisturize your hair during the week. I suggest 3 or 4 days after your wash to treat your ends. You can apply just a small amount of your favorite moisturizer to your ends followed by an oil. This will keep your ends nice and healthy until your next wash. Our goal is to keep our ends as strong and healthy as possible, so we can actually sustain hair growth.

Hi Lorraine I came across your videos on youtube. I am actually white, but I have curly baby fine hair and I was having so much trouble growing it from all the breakage and split ends due to coloring, japanese straighteneing, and heat styling. I feel like my problems thinking my hair doesn't grow are similar to black girls because I was constantly fighting nature. I give you a lot of credit for getting your hair so long and beautiful and I like your advice. I think your advice is really true across any culture.
Do you oil your little gril ends with Amla or coconut or jojoba oil because my daugtther ends are very dry in I don't know what to do and do you have any nice little gril hair style?
Thanks Remy
Hi Remy,
Sometimes I will use a little coconut oil on my baby ends, just a little. This penetrates her hair shaft making her ends soft and moisturized.
3-4days after you shampoo and condition? wow...I moisturize daily and seal.
Hi Sunshyne,
I use to moisturize and seal daily for a while, however usually 4 or 5days later my hair would be weight down and I like to wear wrap styles. So when I started doing it every 3 or 4 days my ends still stayed nice and moisturized minus weight down hair. I contributed that to my overall hair regimen of using good shampoos, deep conditioners, oils and proper handling. However, I always suggest to just pay attention to "your" hair needs.
BTW, your blog is great...
What salon do you go to for your relaxer retouch? I live in queens and I can't find a good salon. I'm willing to travel anywhere and pay anything just to get my hair done right. Please provide the name and location of the salon you personally go to? Also you can list the name of your stylist if you feel comfortable. Thanks!!!
Anonymous: I don't really go to any salons..I take care my hair myself. I self relax or get my sister to do it. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for Salons in Queens.
